Game Jam 2 Entries

The Game Development Club is pleased to share with you entries from our second Game Jam. The theme for this jam was “Create your own Path” and developers had a week to create a game under this theme. Let’s have a look at the results.

Small World Rescue
Creators: Matthew Trobbiani, Tristan Trabilsie, Sarah and Jamie Williamson
Platforms: Windows, XNA Required

Use your Jetpack in this platformer to save kids from a crumbling planet. Boost, glide and fly around as you try to save as many kids as you can before you run out of fuel or your time runs out.

Spectrum
Creator: Gayan Ediriweera
Platforms: Windows, XNA Required

Spectrum is a puzzle game that uses mirrors to control the direction of different colored light beams. Your goal is to place mirrors down and adjust their orientation in order to reflect the light beams to reach a set destination.

Metapath
Creators: Weasels and MattL
Platforms: Windows

In Metapath you travel down a tunnel while trying to collect as many gold pieces as possible. Try to avoid hitting the edges of the tunnel as the gold pieces become harder to collect.

Clear the Road
Creator: Weasels
Platforms: Web, Requires Unity Plugin

Clear other cars away using your mouse as you speed down a busy road. Try to get to the end as quickly as possible.

Chico The Wormy
Creator: Lyndon Carter
Platforms: Windows

Help Chico, the kind hearted worm with protecting a group of ants from danger. Create underground tunnels for the ants to follow you through as you guide them to safety.

AreaMaze
Creator: Pete
Platforms: Web

In AreaMaze you strategically move around a maze trying to occupy as much of the area of the maze as possible. Play against other players.

Leave your Path
Creator: Christopher Johnson
Platforms: Mac, Compile from Source using Macports

Try to collect as many gold coins as you can before the timer runs out. Watch out for various shapes pushing and pulling you in different directions. Leave a path behind to obstruct the path these shapes.

Traffic Jam
Creator: Richard Taylor
Platforms: Web, Requires Unity Plugin

Make your way through a busy city using your car to find the quickest path to your destination.

Pathetic
Creators: Weasels, MattL, Sam, Josh
Platforms: Web

Travel through hedge maze as you try to avoid booby traps left by other players. Lay your own traps for future players and even destroy the maze by cutting parts of the hedge in your way.

Trains
Creator: Lyndon Carter
Platforms: Windows

Trains is a two player game in which players take turns in building tracks between three cities. Once the track is layed by one player, the other player cannot build over it. The first player to build their track wins.

Bacteria
Creator: Weasels
Platforms: Web, Requires Silverlight

In Bacteria you control the flow of white and red blood cells between various organs of the human body. Clear infections by pumping the organs with the corresponding cells to improve their overall health.

Talk – Design Reboot

The Games Development Club will be replaying an influential talk given by Jonathon Blow at the Montreal International Game Summit 2007 called Design Reboot. This talk critically analyses existing game design practises and examines the creation of meaningful and deep games. It’s an essential talk for anyone who wants to design games. The talk will conclude with pizza and an open forum to discuss the talk.
